A Kingston bearer accused of firing a gun at his neighbour in a domestic dispute has been acquitted of firearm charges.
Fifty-three-year-old Wayne Chambers was found not guilty of illegal possession of firearm and shooting with intent following a trial that ended on Friday before Justice Simone Wolfe-Reece in the Gun Court.
The Crown led evidence that on September 1, 2022, around 9:15 pm, the complainant was attempting to drive into his home in the Dunkirk area when he was stopped by Chambers and an argument developed.
Chambers then reportedly went for a gun and fired a single shot at the complainant.
Shortly after the alleged incident, the complainant reported the matter.
However, during the trial, Chambers' lawyer, Chadwick Berry, challenged the witness’ credibility and his account of the alleged shooting.
He pointed to the witness' testimony that he was in his vehicle when Chambers aimed a gun at his head after which he felt a vibration at the steering.
Berry suggested that it was highly impossible for the event to unfold as the witness had indicated in light of the evidence.
The lawyer argued that no spent shell was recovered or was any damage caused to the vehicle or the complainant.
The only damage indicated by the complainant Berry highlighted was to the bottom of his steering wheel cover.
