Changing times demand strategic adjustments — a lesson well understood by LP Azar Managing Director, Andrew Azar.

Since its founding on Barry Street in downtown Kingston over 70 years ago, the family-run fabric business has evolved, including a major relocation to Marescaux Road in the 1980s. Despite the move, one tradition remained: offering credit to customers purchasing bulk materials for school and work uniforms.

However, with the government’s recent removal of taxes on imported ready-to-wear garments impacting local retailers, Azar has repositioned to meet shifting consumer demands. To stay ahead, LP Azar launched a Uniform Department, catering to evolving trends and preferences in the local market.

Now, in an exciting move, the company has teamed up with local womenswear designer Tamia Carey to diversify its offerings, providing customers with dynamic styles and a wider fabric selection.

In an exclusive interview with LOOP, Azar reflects on the company’s history and shares his vision for the future of Jamaica’s garment industry.
