The driver of a Toyota Noah involved in a Monday morning two-vehicle crash on the Holland Bamboo main road in St Elizabeth, which left 18 students with minor injuries, is to be questioned by police.
The update was provided by head of the St Elizabeth police, Superintendent Coleridge Minto, in a video statement on the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s (JCF) Facebook page.
Meanwhile, Hampton School Principal Dr Mahvell Charlton-Brown has indicated that 14 students from her institution have since been treated and released from the Black River Hospital on Monday.
According to the allegations outlined by Minto, about 7am, a Toyota Coaster bus was travelling in an easterly direction towards Santa Cruz, while the Toyota Noah was travelling in the opposite direction.
“On reaching a section of the Holland Bamboo main road, the driver of the Toyota Noah overtook a vehicle and collided with the Toyota Coaster (bus),” the law enforcer informed.
“Fourteen students from the Hampton High School for girls are here (at the hospital), as well as four students from Munroe College. Their injuries, at this time, are not considered serious,” Minto stated.
Investigations are ongoing into the development.
It is understood that some of the students were allowed to sit their Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) tests at the medical facility.
