The US Embassy in Kingston has issued an updated statement clarifying speculation surrounding the death of a Jamaican national at the embassy on Monday.
In a statement released this morning, the embassy emphasised that the individual experienced a medical emergency "upon arrival and prior to the purpose of the visit."
Following reports of the incident, social media users speculated that the individual may have suffered a medical emergency after conducting business at the embassy. However, the embassy has firmly stated that this was not the case.
On Monday, Public Affairs Attaché Mike Lavallee told Loop News: "The US Embassy in Kingston is deeply saddened by the passing of a Jamaican national who experienced a medical emergency while visiting the Embassy this morning."
Reports indicate that at approximately 8:20 a.m., the individual suffered a medical episode. Despite receiving immediate medical attention, they tragically passed away.
The embassy confirmed that the body was later removed by a funeral home in accordance with local laws and procedures.
Out of respect for the privacy of the deceased and their family, the US Embassy stated that no further details could be provided.
"The US Embassy Kingston extends sincere condolences to the deceased’s family and friends during this difficult time," the statement concluded.
