Opposition Spokesman on Transport and Works, Mikael Phillips has derided the “Choose Jamaica” campaign slogan of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP).
The governing party has replaced the “Prosperity” slogan used in its 2020 general election campaign, replacing it with “Choose Jamaica” as it urges Jamaicans to return it to office for a third consecutive term.
Phillips, the Member of Parliament for Manchester North West used his contribution to the Sectoral Debate on Wednesday to take a jab at the government.
“After almost 10 years in office, some people are promising to ‘Choose Jamaica’. We have been doing that since 1938, and repeatedly at all material times, particularly in 1944 (Universal Adult Suffrage) and 1962 (Independence). It is our lifeblood. We understand the needs of Jamaica and Jamaicans,” said Phillips.
He added that, “We (the People’s National Party) are ready to build a thriving, productive, safe, and healthy society for all. It is by our deeds that the people will know us”.
Phillips concluded his sectoral presentation with a prayer saying: “As we come to the end of the life of this Parliament, Lord, dismiss us with thy blessing. Thanks for mercies past received. And those returning are more faithful than before.”
